Janet Brito
Janet Brito is one of the heroes in our community. She attended Kelvyn Park High School last year and she finished her first year of college. She looks like a very nice person that likes to help out in the community. She has a confident and outgoing personality. Janet and her family have a close relationship and get along pretty well with one another. She had a pretty good childhood and one of her favorite childhood memory would be going to the park with her sisters and playing in the sprinklers. One piece of advice Janet gave us about life was, “Sometimes when you try to give up remember to always keep on going and no matter what you will always have help.”
Janet is a community hero in the Logan Square neighborhood. When she has time she tries to help out as many ways as possible. She didn't grow up with much violence in her life, but she wants go back to college to go to law school and become a lawyer and help people out. Janet’s desire to help out in the community motivates her to fight for a change. Janet’s opinion on CPS suspension is that it is very high and you get suspended easily for no reason. She believes instead of suspending the students it would be better to have students do community service because regardless you still get punished.
Janet is a motivated and a hard working person and as everyone else, she had obstacles to face. She doesn't work, but she does community service whenever she has time. When she tries to do something for the community she tries to make change. Janet’s believes that violence pushes people out of their community and makes them want to move to a different neighborhood. She also believes that we should be more connected to the people in our community and get to know each others. This can help our community decrease the violence around us.
Janet wasn't really affected with violence in her life, but other people might especially the teens who are involved in gangs just to fit in with society. Janet believes one kid can’t make a difference by themselves. It takes a group or community to make a difference because if you stand up alone you don’t have much support, but as a group you have a lot of support around you. Janet said if she was the mayor of Chicago one thing she would change would be CPS format and try to focus on community projects and also try to decrease the violence in Chicago. She doesn't agree with the mayor trying to build new schools or charter schools. Like Janet said, “He should focus on other schools instead of turning them around.” Janet noticed that violence is a big problem in our community and they need to do something about it to stop it.
