Carlos Ruiz

Carlos Ruiz

Carlos is one of the hero’s interviewed, he was born in Chicago and had left to Puerto Rico when he was two, and came back when he was ten. His parents are from Puerto Rico. His older sister is 16. She’s a sophomore at lane tech. Hi’s dad’s part of the family is in puerto rico. His dream when he was younger was to be a baseball player. He hasn’t accomplished that dream. His favorite favorite hobby comes from his dream, Playing baseball and sports. He plays baseball on sunday’s. He likes reading, He likes eating pizza every day, and likes playing video games and hanging out with friends. The advice he would give us about life would be to stay in school, pay attention to what our parents or guardians say, to not try to grow up so fast. Enjoy life as a teenager. His childhood was good. He would be on his phone or playing outside.

He was the first from the family to graduate college. His sister graduated high school but didn’t go to college. About the CPS he would change the no child left behind thin it would change the whole system. In his high school year there would be no fighting. He went to play baseball, he started playing baseball when he was three or four years. He won a championship when he was little. He used to play at humboldt park. In ten years he sees himself as a vice principal or principal In any alternative school somewhere around where no violence would be. What he thinks about suspension is weird  because he thinks there should be no punishment. Some students do it on purpose because they don’t want to come to school. It’s actually taking away their education, and can’t come back for five or ten days. They're obviously  going to be out in parks and streets.

He was sent to Kelvyn Park H.S he helps kids to get to colleges , help them in homework, tutoring, and in general, He used to work at ames doing tutoring and after school programs, basketball leads and In school intervention with gang members instead of being in the streets  from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. He grew up in this community. He once cared because there would be shooting in his community. It was just a couple months on his job he had just got out of college. He found to kids who were trying to get out of gangs. He likes talking, and sharing personal stuff with his students. His education helped him open up his mind, open up his eyes, and making him go to college. He would want to come back to his community and teach what he had learned. What he dont like is that when he passes through five blocks he sees three gangs. Violence has not affected his community thats the reason he stays inside.

He looks up to his parents, they always been hard working. They taught him to be respectful, grateful. He works hard and goes to college. His parents gave him everything he had when he was little. Everything he has done was all because of his parents. The ones who inspires him are the students who work with him. A hero and a leader are very similar. He don’t judge people. He’s twenty three and is not engaged or married. He works with kids and he know’s how they are. He’s not ready for kids, until hes like in the thirty’s year old.
