Huu Nguyen by Rolando Garcia
Ms.Huu is a nice, kind, and loving person. She and her parents are from Vietnam and they fled Vietnam in 1980 and once they did they ended up in a refugee camp for a few months in Hong Kong and then made their ways to the United States and once they arrived they settled themselves in North Carolina and made it to Chicago 12 years ago. As she was growing up in the United States she wanted to have things like everyone else, but that all changed when she learned that what she wanted to do is travel. Growing up as a child she didn't receive many things but she learned to appreciate what she got because her parents were factory workers so she eventually learned that things don’t come easy. As a person Ms.Huu is a nice and caring person who mostly sees the positive things in people and she tries not to think about the negative things in people and in life. So if you want to learn more about Ms. Huu then keep reading this to listen on her views on things she does and her opinions on topic that affect Chicago.
Now we will learn Ms.Huu’s opinion on education and how she feels about Cps and what she studied at college as a graduate. As a former college student Ms. Huu studied in three majors which were Biochemistry, Biology, and Ethnobotany and as she studied these majors she thought she would go into pre medicine. But as Ms. Huu keep studying and working she ended up going into pharmacognosy which is the study of drugs from it’s origin, but in the end she ended up co-founding ICAF. And what Ms.Huu thinks about Cps, is that Cps is beinging runned the way it is suppose to be which is not to make us critical thinkers and the way she thinks this is his happening is by taking many test in one year. Ms.Huu believes that test are meaningless because she say “ Which is not to make us critical thinkers as emotional human beings as we should be it is sort of like saying fill in these circles and it is meaningless to you so how does that make you feel about school.” This shows that Ms.Huu thinks that test are not really necessary because she goes on to say that many of these test don’t evaluate the students so what’s the point of taking many test, she also goes on to say that these test don’t evaluate the student skills because she says that these test don’t test skills like peoples presentation skills so how can they know what student are good at or not.
We have learned about Ms.Huu’s opinion on education and now we will learn about the work she does to help the community. Ms.Huu has been involved in numerous national and international conferences, both as a participant as well as an organizer and instructor, she co-founded the ICAF Chicago capoeira program for toddlers and children. The ICAF is a unique program that focuses on cultivating self value and self-esteem in participants through the use of music and movement. Not only that Ms.Huu also workers with non profit organizations to help children and parents and she goes on to tell us “I don’t do this for the money I do this to help those people who are in need of help like parents and children”. This shows that Ms.Huu is contributing to the community because she is willing to help those people who are in need of help and she gives back to the community by helping younger kids gain their confidence and be outspoken kids which will help the next generation be more smart, confident, and well educated.
Now you will learn the things Ms.Huu believes are affecting our city of Chicago. One of the issues that Ms.Huu thinks is affecting our city is sexism because she says that when it comes to the workplace the majority of the time the male worker gets paid more than the women which seems to be unfair just because of the different genders so she thinks a problem. Another problem that seems to affect the city of Chicago is youth violence because children with no parents have not experienced the care and love of a parent which would lead them down the wrong path which would lead to violence and drugs. One thing she said is “To tell you guys any practice you will see that the male workers gets paid more than the female worker which is the way things are.” This shows that she believes that this is unfair because both male and female workers work at the same time and pace but the male still gets paid more which almost seems unjust so it is something to consider in the future.
In conclusion Ms.Huu is a nice and kind person who wants to see change in the of city of Chicago so it can be a better place to live in. In all Ms.Huu is a good person to learn about because she speaks her mind and willing to bring up issues that are affecting our city and our streets. Ms.Huu is a person who is interesting to learn about because gives you good advice about life to inform you about the things that may come to pass in the future which is informative. Ms.Huu is a wonderful person to get to know because she has good advice, she is well educated and well informed of life so she is almost like a role model that young kids can grow up and learn about. Ms.Huu is just wonderful person to know and she is a person who wants everyone to accomplish as much as can in their life which is something good for the next generation of kids.
