Karina Molina

My name is Vanessa Cortez and I interviewed Karina Molina and shes a senior at Kelvyn Park High School and works for LSNA ( Logan Square Association). Karina is from Logan Square and she grew up there almost her whole life. She loves playing baseball and softball during her childhood with her dad. Karina has two older siblings a brother and a sister and she is the youngest in the family. Karina was always little daddy's girl and get spoiled by both parents. Karina is really close to her dad than her mom. Her mom was closer to her brother and sister. Karina's both dads and moms family didn't get along at all when she use to travel with her dad to Miami to visit her dads family. Karina had traveled to Wisconsin and Indiana besides Miami. Katrina sees herself as a Police Officer in 10 years not just a whatever officer but an understanding person not being so hard on everyone when doing its job.

Karina goal is to change the Financial expenses of CPS is the least priorities and the people who are in charge of that they first find problems for other priorities than education that's why education is in the bottom of the list which cause that schools budget its very low. In Kelvyn Park last year they have lost a lot of teachers because of the school budget, so next year it’s expected to be lower and by there every year is going to decrease. Kelvyn Park is about the third school to lose the most money. Karina's opinion in education is that very important because your learning skills keeps growing. Education needs to be founded to have a better quality of education for everybody. Karina's greatest challenge is that is difficult to get accepted into different schools because of tests for example the ISAT and the ACT after you graduate, but she maintains really good grades always straight A’s. Standardized tests is a big problem with education even when you apply for College. Karina's experience in High School when she was  a freshman was different because the Middle School she went to is was a repeat on what she learned from there. The work of Kelvyn Park is too easy then after that you start slacking off then students get lazy.

Karina's work on helping the community is that she work for a program to help the schools for example talking to the principal about Kelvyn Park’s education issue and its budget problems that is going on, also phone calls to parents, also projects of funding on education. Also Karina speaks to representatives of CPS, and the problems is that for example other neighborhood schools get funded because of taxes and its just the same school as Kelvyn Park, but those kind of schools are different comparing to Kelvyn Park. That's how Karina talks to her representatives so the community can make a change to schools to have a better education. So Karina and other people are going to have a meeting in Springfield so they could have a big deal.

Karina’s opinion in our community is that there are issues that affect our city in a way and decreases our education and segregation is one of the issues. Since there is a problem on segregation in schools affecting our education Karina is trying to also change that problem in CPS. The better the neighborhoods the better the schools and a better education the better that tax values. Karina's opinions about that is that is very obvious because people who are black, Hispanic, Latino etc. we are considered poor and the lower class so it has to do with that. There isn't a difference between no one everyone's the same, everyone is a human just different from the outside of you.

The person who inspires Karina is Mr.O’Bra is because he got her into the Social Injustice Academy and he opened her eyes on all the big injustices that nobody really sees that is happening around people. Karina wants to go to University of Miami and become a great police officer and try to make a difference and make sure education is top for everybody for everyone. It doesn't matter where you came from everyone has to have a better education. Karina plans to come back to Kelvyn Park to make sure it’s in good condition and make sure it becomes a better high school. The time Karina had a meeting with the representatives of CPS she spoke up and made a lot of notes to make sure they understand the problem with the school funding.

Karina’s opinion on a Hero is that is someone who helps the community, also someone who helps without any need of money, someone who is a really good role model, someone who is older and other younger people look up to, someone who you want to be when you grow up, someone who makes a really good change in the community, kind and nice. the trait of a Hero should be enthusiastic, bold, someone who has a voice. Karina’s role model now is Mr.O’Bra because he focuses his students first then his job. When she was younger it was her older sister. Karina's quote is “ A Hero is someone who everyone like and a role model is someone who is closer to you.”
