Jennifer is a teenager that graduated from Kelvyn Park High School. She likes to read, write, and watch movies. She is studying at Northeastern because she wants to become an English teacher. She was born in Chicago, Il.
Getting an education is important, and she likes helping people. She feels like becoming an English teacher because she likes helping people.
Jennifer said that “kids drop out of school” because they “don’t receive the love they need from their family” and that is how they start “selling drugs and joining gangs, ” because they “don’t get the love they want.”
A hero for her is “someone who helps without needing to help.” Batman is her favorite hero because “you don’t have to be an alien or out of this world to save a life.”
Jennifer works in the Logan Square neighborhood, and she organizes projects like the Metropolitan Community Project with Kelvyn Park and New Trier. She’s been working in Logan Square since 2012. She works mostly in schools.
On her experience at Kelvyn Park, she says that “don’t think just coming to school and not doing nothing is good.“ You have to do your work while you're in school. In your freshman year you will do lots of work. And then your sophomore year is the one that is the most calm. Junior year is where it gets harder and you have to do your ACT test. Senior year is where you have to make sure that you have all of your community hours and pass all of your classes.
