Jose Rodriguez

Jose Rodriguez

Jose Rodriguez is a wonderful person, I loved how he was so open, funny and willing to talk about his life. Jose is amazing and interesting and so much of what he had to say was completely unexpected.
Jose shared his feeling about education and he said he never considered dropping out because some of his family members were  principals and teachers so education was something he had to do to be successful. He became an art teacher in Puerto Rico with his wife and then later he was began teaching other subjects besides Art at an Alternative high school.
Jose is a community hero because he helps kids in school and he seems to be a good influence.  He lived on one side of Fullerton by Humboldt park he said it was a bad neighborhood at the time and then he moved a few blocks to Logan Square and he said it was really different and he liked it better.
Some issues Jose believes is affecting our community is drugs, violence, and gang activity. Jose agreed that when kids get suspended from school and go home they have nothing to do and therefore they go out and get into trouble. Kids see the gangs and they might think its a cool thing and cool people to be around when it really isn't ! So with our type of community then they are in harms way. This creates a bad reputation for our community were WE all live in.
