Nancy is a senior at Kelvyn Park High School, she is 17 years old and grew up in Chicago IL.

Nancy is a really cool person and very smart, she said ” Don’t let other people put you down”.  Nancy is an inspiration to all students at Kelvyn Park.   Nancy’s education was good even though she didn’t have her father around, she still did well in school because she wants to go to college and become either a nurse or a journalist after she graduates from kelvyn park high school. She said that she would always go to school no matter what unless she was really sick.

    Two things that Nancy said about community hero’s is that she would like to change her community because there’s too many things going on. For Example she said that “not many kids could go outside because their parents worried about them” she went on to say “every time they would go out they would always have to be there to see what their child’s doing.”  Nancy believes that gangs have something do with the community, she mentioned that in order to make her community better we need to remove gangs so children could go outside without their parents worrying and make things better.

    Nancy said that in our community not all the schools are the same because she said that she has been to DownTown and the schools are way better than here.

Nancy said the schools DownTown “ have more utilities and supplies over there there's also more technology”. She said she believes that all CPS schools should be  equal.

One of her favorite interests was reading books she loves books that is her favorite thing to do even in her free time. Nancy’s least favorite genre was Science Fiction her favorite book was  “Tuesdays with Morrie.” Nancy also mentioned that her Hero is her sister and her Mom because they were always there for her.  After her father got deported to mexico she went through many harsh things she wasn't able to concentrate at school or stay on task because of her father but she got through it and move on forward that makes her feel special because she got a lot of companionship and that makes her a community hero because she works at the logan square.
