Maria Trejo

Maria Trejo

Maria Trejo works at Ames Middle School as the Elevate Director. She brings in community and after school programs to the school. She loves her job because she is working with kids and our community. She is very funny and knows how to work well with kids. She is very kind and if I needed someone to give me advice, I would go to her because she knows connect with students.

Maria’s point of view in regards to the community is that it is amazing and that there are people in this community that can make it better. To make this community better she goes on strikes and attends meetings to show people that she cares about the education of students in our community.

Maria believes that our community is special and that it has lots of potential and great people  that can make a difference. She said, “the military wanted to take over Ames middle school”. Maria explained to us that they had been fighting to keep Ames Middle School as a neighborhood school and not as a selective enrollment military school.

Maria explained that her heroes are the students, because the only reason she does her job everyday is because of the great kids and our community. She made sure to say that, “all the work that I do during the week and weekends really is for the students.”
