Mora Nugent The Community Hero

Maura Nugent, was a girl who loved to dance when she was little. When she was in school, she always had her friends and family by her side especially when she was down, therefore she wasn’t as depressed or lonely as teens are today. Maura was asked if she had been insecure about herself like some girls are today, she said “As I grew older I felt insecure about myself trying to fit in.” but then “I realized that it’s ok to be different from everybody”.

Maura had classes that gave her an opportunity to travel the world and she learned about different cultures and saw new things in other countries. Her favorite place to travel to was Switzerland because of all the new things she learned there and it is such a beautiful country. When she was in high school her favorite class was English because she loves to write. We asked her if she can give us advice about high school and she said “Life can always change” meaning high school can change us and things change when we get into high school.

Nugent is a teacher, when a student needs help she talks to them and tries her best to help them out and she gives them advice. She works with students and she loves teaching them new things.  Maura has kids of her own and she wants to be a great mother to them and wants them to live in a great community. She also wants to help them in the future like she helps her students.

She had some thoughts about our city Chicago. She had talked about CPS on how she thinks the mayor makes challenging decisions for the public schools. She said  “CPS makes me want to leave teaching and take my kids out of the there but then it makes me want to stay and  fight those challenges”. She thinks Chicago gang fights are dangerous and that kids/teens should have an activity to do after school instead of being in the streets.

I asked if she thinks one kid could make a difference and she said “Yes, I think one kid can make a difference because they could stand up and make the world of difference”. Nugent is a community hero because she helps people out people like her students and her kids. I’m glad to had met Mora Nugent because she helped me, knowing what to face in the future.
